Police make arrests after tax search

Police from the Homeland Security Department of the Home Office arrested five suspects yesterday, including three men and two women who are senior executives at the tax services agency called Fetax Business Solution.

They were referred to the Phnom Penh Municipal Court for questioning on suspicion of tax evasion involving at least $10 million.

Department of Homeland Security police officer Major Kong Savin identified them as Huoth Lihong, 37, the representative and head of Fetax Business Solution; Hong Chanvuthy, 45; Kok Sambath, 42; Houl Sreysar, 23, and Lem Rath, 25.

Major Savin said they were arrested on Monday after police from the Interior Ministry’s Domestic Security Department, led by Deputy Court Prosecutor Chhay Hong, raided the agency in Toek La township. ‘ak II of Tuol Kork district.

Major Savin said the search and inspection was carried out after a tax investigation by the General Tax Department of the Ministry of Economy and Finance revealed that the owner of the company had conspired to falsify tax documents involving at least $10 million owed to the state.

He said during the raid, police confiscated computers, cameras, electronic devices, documents and stamps.

He added that the business was temporarily closed and cordoned off by order of the court’s assistant prosecutor.

Phnom Penh Municipal Court Registrar Ly Sokhen said yesterday that the five suspects were being questioned and had not yet been charged.
