The County of Effingham, as trustee, has completed its overdue property tax deed process for 2016 and prior property taxes.
The county, as trustee, will now offer the real estate obtained for sale to the public. It will offer 11 items in a sealed auction. All sealed offers must be filed with the Effingham County Treasurer’s office located at the Effingham County Courthouse, 101 N. 4 “‘Street, Suite 202, Effingham, by the close of business on the 16th October.
The sale of these lots should be a major advantage both for the taxing municipalities and for the riparian owners. This sale will place the property in the hands of individuals who have an interest in owning it.
The county, as trustee, hopes these new owners will keep both the property and the property taxes paid. By eliminating abandoned properties, the appearance of the neighborhood should improve and the value of adjacent properties should increase.
The minimum bid required is $ 815 per item. All items will be sold at the highest sealed auction received on or before October 16.
Complete bidder’s packages and sales catalogs are now available from the Effingham County Treasurer’s office or online at www.iltaxsale.com.
